SRU Club Sports

A couple weeks ago I ventured down to the arc to see if there was any club sports to join. I have participated in sports my entire life, so it seems weird for me to not be a part of a sport. To my surprise there was so many sports to choose from. I was so excited that my options seemed limitless. After reviewing the possible sports, I decided to join the tennis club because it has always been one of my favorite sports, but I never played it in high school because it was during soccer season. Whats your opinion on club sports? Are they fun and competitive?

Obesity Epidemic

It is rather scary to think about the obesity epidemic and how much it has increased over the past decade or so ago. People have to realize that this is a problem that should be focused on more than it currently is. Due to the fact that I want to be a health and PE teacher, this issue is extremely important. One way that we can try to decrease this statistic is to make PE mandatory for all schools, and make certain that obesity is discussed in all health books. At least young kids and teens will get a fair amount of physical activity and an awareness about this subject.

New Experiences

This is my first semester here at slippery rock because I'm a transfer student and I must say I am really enjoying the experiences so far. Each course that I am in are both enjoyable and beneficial; although some are difficult (A&P), I am really loving my major, the arc is a very nice facility to work out/swim in, and I enjoy spending time with friends both old and new. It is a great community to become a part of because I am learning so much already as I try to catch up because a fair amount of my credits would not transfer. Those who have been in Health and PE for a few years now are a big assistance in helping me learn the roots of the classes, professors, what to expect, etc. so thank you!

SRU Woman's Soccer Game

This past Saturday (9-12-09) I spent my afternoon watching the SRU woman's soccer team play a very exciting game against Clarion. If you were not at the game, it was tied 0-0 for a majority of the game until with about a minute and a half left SRU scored a goal! They held their lead for that last grueling minute or so. Both teams were extremely aggressive and put their everything into each second of the game which made it all the more enjoyable to watch. Also, their passing and ball control skills were great.
